After touring 14 countries in 50 days, the 15th Asian Games Flame returns to Doha on Saturday, 25 November. The torch relay of Asian Games 2006 followed a journey of more than 50,000 kms across various regions of Asia.
The Asian Games flame is eagerly awaited back home. Thousands of fans are expected to witness this 'homecoming'.
Arriving from the Bahraini capital of Manama, the flame will touch home soil at the Al Shamal Port of Qatar. Al Shaqab, a traditional dhow, will be the 'official' carrier of the flame to its home.
The Torch Relay Ambassador of 15th Asian Games, Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani will bring the torch ashore, where it'll be showered by flowers. More than 5,000 schoolchildren, and numerous Qatari women are touted to be present for this traditional welcome ceremony.
Then, the cauldron of Asian Games 2006, Doha will be lit. Simultaneously, thousands of balloons will be released in air, making a spectacular riot of colors in the sky.
After a traditional dance performance by more than 100 men, and an official presentation, the torch relay will start again, for a tour of the host country.
For five days, the torch will travel to various parts of Qatar. Eventually, it'll arrive at the Khalifa Stadium on 1st December, the opening day of the Asiad 2006.
The cauldron will be again lit here to declare the event open, and this will be followed by a riveting opening ceremony of Asian Games 2006, one of the biggest sports extravaganzas of the year.
