Touted to be the biggest extravaganza in the history of Asian Games, the 15th edition of this quadrennial event is all set to cross a few landmarks. Asian Games 2006, Doha is expected to reach an audience of over three billion people worldwide.
The telecast of Asian Games 2006 will cover more than 60 countries across the globe. Apart from the 45 member countries of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the 15th Asian Games will be broadcast live in the European and American continents as well. This has been possible due to the telecast rights-sale in the USA and Venezuela (South America).
Apart from the events and sports in Asian Games 2006, a five-minute daily news service will be produced by Sports News Television. As per their agreement with Reuters, this news will be distributed through their international networks.
Transmitted to almost every television station of the world, this broadcast is expected to reach an audience crossing the three-billion-mark. Doordarshan and China Central Television, national broadcasters in India and China respectively, will be the flagbearers in this case.
Athletics, gymnastics, swimming are the sports where coverage is expected to reach its peak. However, it also depends on a sport's appeal in a particular country. Broadly speaking, football in Asian Games 2006 is touted to be the biggest contributor to the organizers' cash coffers.
