Football competition of the Asian Games 2006, Doha lost yet another participant in the form of Yemen. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) sent an official statement to the Doha Asian Games Organizing Committee (DAGOC) confirming the same.
Yemen, slotted in Group C, along with Thailand, Palestine and Kuwait, have not yet cited the actual reason of their withdrawal.
Turkmenistan were the first team to withdraw their name from the list of participating countries in Asian Games 2006 football competition. Their team was placed in Group F with Japan, Pakistan and DPR Korea.
The new rules laid down by AFC for this football competition state that the best runners-up of round 1 will join the round 1 winners of Groups A and B in round 2. A draw conducted by AFC will decide the groups in which these runners-up will fall during the second round.
Hence, these unwarranted withdrawals are sure to affect the results of Asian Games 2006, Doha. We might be in for a few surprises at the end of the prelims.
