World-class facilities will be provided to athletes at the Asian Games 2006 village. With 45 participating countries in Asian Games 2006, Doha is set to become temporary residences for thousands of athletes and their support staff.
The Doha Asian Games Village (AGV) or the Asiad Village is reported to be ready by September. The Director of the Doha Asian Games Village, Hamad Al Tamimi will hand it over to the DAGOC.
The organizers are spending more than $600 million for the Asian Games 2006 village. The village will be spilt into three zones - residential, international and public.
The village for Asian Games 2006 will have 32 blocks in all. Nine and five-storeyed buildings will have a total of 811 flats. There'll be running water and electricity provided in all the apartments.
The Asian Games 2006 village will also have a huge cinema hall, mosque, gymnasium, discothèque and a religious convention center. The mess of the AGV will be able to accommodate 4,000 diners at a time.
The Asiad 2006 village will also have a mini medical center, replete with the latest medical technologies, expert doctors and nursing services all through the event.
A mini shopping mall is also on the agenda of the organizers. The mall will have postal, car rental and banking services along with shops selling Asian Games 2006 merchandise.
The village will have a huge parking area that will allow safe parking for 2,500 cars. There'll be more than 70 buses available to ferry athletes to and fro their respective venues throughout the day.
Athletes will have no trouble regarding any of their daily activities. Every modern-day comfort will be made available to the participants.
After the end of the event, the Asian Games 2006 village will be converted into a state-of-the-art medical center.
