A Canoe-Kayak competition at the Asian Games 2006 is the best way to ogle at the picturesque beauty of the Corniche Bay, the most popular tourist attraction of Doha.
Racing on a straight course of water, Canoe-Kayak players require speed and stamina more than anything else. Paddling a boat all through the competition strait can be quite a test of physical endurance.
Small and narrow boats are propelled using paddles, canoes and kayaks are different in terms of paddle and seating position. The Canoe is paddled with one knee down and a single-bladed paddle is used for propelling. However, a Kayak is paddled with stretched out legs and double-bladed paddles.
It is quite amusing to observe that Canoe and Kayak were initially modes of transportation on water. Over the years, rowers have developed their skills and have engaged themselves in playing the sport at a professional level.
The Canoe-Kayak competition at the Doha Asian Games is expected to be one of the most-watched outdoor sports of the event.
