Cyclists from participating teams in Asian Games 2006 can enjoy sightseeing whilst competing in the prestigious event. Cycling competitions at the 15th Asian Games will be held on the Corniche Bay, one of the major tourist attractions of Doha.
Track and Road Cycling are the two categories of Cycling competitions at Asian Games 2006. Track Cycling is done on a track built for this purpose. Known as the Velodrome, this track is usually about 250 meters long at the Asian Games.
Road Cycling is contested on public roads of a city. Held amidst natural environments and exotic surroundings at the Corniche, this Cycling competitions will be the most-watched event by the general public of Doha.
The most determining factor in a Cycling competition is speed of a cyclist. However, it is not as easy and simple as it seems to be. Cycling requires lot of resilience and stamina.
At the Doha Asian Games, there will be a total of 12 track events and five road events for cyclists. Competitions are open for individuals as well as teams.
Cycling has been an inherent part of the Games ever since their inception at New Delhi in 1951. According to the history of Asian Games, the competition was discontinued in Manila 1954 and restarted in Tokyo 1958.
