The event in Asian Games 2006 that teams up man and animal, Equestrian is one of the most interesting competitions of the Games.
Equestrian is expected to conjure up the sale of tickets for Asian Games 2006. It is predicted to be one of the most-watched events in Doha.
The following four events form the Equestrian competition:
Dressage - This events literally shows how much the horse obeys his master. The rider signals and the horse has to respond accordingly. The more accurate the responses, the greater points you garner.
This event is held in three rounds. The first two rounds have the rider performing in alliance with his horse; whilst in the third round, they perform individually.
Jumping - Riders have to guide their animal to jump over 14 obstacles that include bars, parallel rails and stonewalls. The leaping skills of the horse and the guidance skills of the rider are put to test in this event.
Eventing - This event in Equestrian competitions involves a mastery over Dressage and Jumping disciplines as well. The desirable qualities for a player competing in Equestrian are precision, courage and patience.
Endurance - This discipline is a true test of endurance powers of a horse and discretion of the rider. The horses need to have tremendous stamina as they need to race for a good 100 miles. The riders need to know well about pace control during the race. They should also know when the horse is unwell or tired.
As far as Asian Games history goes, Equestrian has been a part of the Games since the 1982 edition at New Delhi. However, Equestrian Endurance racing has been introduced for the first time at the 15th Asian Games in Doha.
