Rowing has been into practice since times immemorial. Earlier used as a mode of transportation, Rowing developed into a competitive sport way back in the 18th century.
Rowers sit on narrow boats and use oars to sail to a targeted point. Rowing is divided into two different events. Regatta is a series of knockout Rowing competitions wherein a final is played to determine the winner. Whereas, the fastest crew in the competition is adjudged the winner of the Head-of-the-River Rowing race.
Desirable qualities in a rower are strength, endurance and a stable and breathing mechanism. The brawn of an athlete is tested in a Rowing competition.
The New Delhi Asian Games in 1982 were the platform for the introduction of Rowing in the Games.
