Played with a racquet on a rectangular court, Soft tennis resembles regular tennis in more ways than one.
At the 15th Asian Games in Doha, soft tennis competitions can be competed in individual, doubles and mixed doubled categories.
The major noticeable difference between soft tennis and regular tennis is that the former uses a softer rubber ball and a lighter racquet in comparison to the latter. Thus, a soft tennis game witnesses more power-packed serves and volleys. All the other rules and playing styles are similar to regular tennis.
In Asian regions, soft tennis has become a very popular sport. Especially in countries like Japan, Korea and China, the game has numerous aficionados.
The doubles version - mixed or otherwise - is more popular than the singles version among soft tennis events. The sport is all about hand-eye coordination and good judgmental skills.
First introduced as a demonstration sport in the Beijing Asian Games in 1990, soft tennis became a regular feature in the Games schedule since the 1994 edition in Hiroshima.
