At the Asian Games 2006, Weightlifting is the sport demanding maximum physical strength more than anything else.
Weightlifting is all about lifting gargantuan weights. Weightlifters require a good level of concentration as well. They need to draw all their physical power to raise the weight above their heads and keep it steady until the referee's signal.
There are two kinds of lifts in a Weightlifting competition. Known as the snatch, and the clean and jerk, these disciplines are very demanding. Each weightlifter can make only three attempts at a lift. Thus, it becomes quite crucial to select the right weight for starters.
Regular exercises and a strict fitness and dietary regime are mandatory to make a name as a weightlifter. Sometimes, they might need to pick up weights twice their own body weight.
Since first-ever Asian Games edition in New Delhi in 1951, Weightlifting has been a regular feature at the Games.
