Blue Mountains

Blue Mountains are a favorite with those seeking a quiet retreat in the hills. It's a serene place, just an hour's drive from Sydney. It houses some of the splendid backwoods, eucalyptuses and beautiful valleys which have been since long a source of inspiration for artists, sculptors and photographers. The places worth visiting here are Bilpin, Jenolan Caves, Lithgow, Katooomba and Leura.

Fraser Island

The Fraser Island is the largest sand island of the world, situated on the Eastern Coast of Queensland. Fraser Island has a marvelous scape comprising beaches, sand dunes, gorges and cliffs. The major tourist attractions at Fraser Island are the Cathedrals, actually the name of sand dunes shaped in the form of cathedrals colored in the hues of reds, oranges, yellows and browns. The Pinnacles are another set of the sculptured sands making a formidable sight, as they are also soaked in various colors. Visit Eli creek, a freshwater stream, and swim in the lower regions of the creek.

Great Barrier Reefs

With breathtaking sights of the coral reefs, it is also an adventure seeker's Mecca with the range of water sports like scuba diving, sailing, surfing and rafting. It is a home to more than 2900 individual reefs and 71 coral islands. It houses a number of species of fishes, corals, molluscs, birds and more.

Kakadu National Park

For those who want to have a closer brush with the Aboriginal culture, the place to visit is the Kakadu national Park. Kakadu is a part of the World Heritage list. The chief attractions in Kakadu National Park are bushwalking tours, boating, fishing and most of all discovering loads of information on the Aboriginal traditions. It also houses an Aboriginal art gallery, Nanguluwur.

Kangaroo Island

The Kangaroo Island boasts of kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, platypuses, dolphins, wallabies, goannas and many more animals. You can also walk down the coasts to discover the marine mammals and the fur seals along the coastline. The chief attractions at the place are Flinder's Chase National Park and Seal Bay where you can find a whopping 6000 species of seals. You can also go sailing on the clear waters of Kangaroo Island.

Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park

A world heritage property, Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park is spread over a vast expanse of land. The chief attractions at this place include the Bungle Bungle range, giving an awesome view with its cliffs, towers and beehive structures. The sandstone cliffs are in the shapes of beehives and there are alternating colors of orange and black around these mounds making for an incredibly beautiful sight.

Uluru

Uluru is the largest monolith in the world, standing tall at over 340 meters above the sea level. The uniqueness of the Uluru is the changing shades of the rock as it changes hues in accordance with the sun, from reds to oranges to grays. It imbues itself with all these shades. The nearby places to explore are the Olgas, which are 36 in number. They are famous for their rock engravings. For avid art buffs, a visit to Maraku Arts and Crafts Complex would be fun, as this place has arts and crafts on display.
