Fiji ranks one of world’s Top 5 Honeymoon Destinations
When it comes time to choose a honeymoon destination, tropical islands are always a hit. It’s little wonder, then, that the tiny Republic of Fiji was recently rated one of the world’s “Five Hot Honeymoon Destinations” by CNN.com’s Travel website – the South Pacific archipelago has 332 islands spread across some of the most picture-perfect beaches and crystal blue waters on Earth.
Seclusion is considered one of the main benefits of a visit to Fiji, as many of the 110 inhabited islands are sectioned off into smaller lots for villas. These resorts give visitors a distinct feeling of separation without isolation, as there is just enough space between cottages to have privacy while still being able to see the neighbors down the beach. This all comes at a price, with hotels ranging anywhere from $200 per night at the larger resorts to $7,600 per night at the exclusive Wakaya Club.
Once you make it to Fiji, you’ll see why the long flight was worth it. The people are warm and friendly, welcoming honeymooners with the customary “Bula” greeting and a cheerful smile. Depending on the final location of your honeymoon destination, you could be walking Fiji’s sugary sands within a few minutes. The sparkling turquoise waters beg snorkelers and scuba divers to jump in and view the coral seascape teeming brightly-colored aquatic wildlife. The Great Astrolabe Reef likes off the coast of Kadavu Island and is famous for allowing couples to snorkel with giant manta rays.
If you’d prefer to stay dry, Fiji has options for you, too. The island rainforests are known as a magnificent location for backpacking amongst the numerous colorful bird species native to the area. On top of that, the volcanic history of the islands has left behind many caves and waterfalls as a reward for those willing to trek through the mountains to see them. Honeymooners looking to participate in sustainable tourism have many options, too, as several resorts have earned the right to be called eco-friendly by using traditional building practices.
After all that activity, you’re going to want to experience the unique Fijian culture. Wander through the local shops filled with handmade goods and listen to a talanoa session – the time-honored method of relaying Fiji’s history and legends. Then, at the end of the night, indulge in wonderful cuisine as traditional meke dancers perform.
The great thing about choosing your honeymoon in Fiji is that you could do all of that or none of it. Maybe, having spent months planning your wedding and reception, you’d rather just lounge by the pool or get a massage on the beach under a canopy of coconut palm trees. Whatever you choose to do, Fiji is certainly the kind of destination you’ll be happily making memories that will last a lifetime.
