Christmas Island Fishing

Christmas Island is everything an ardent fishing fan can ask for. Therefore Christmas Island fishing is likely to be the ultimate experience for anyone who is an earnestly engaged in the activity of fishing.

Fish Species - Christmas Island is the greatest bonefish destination. The island is renowned for innumerable bonefishes within the 3-6 pound range. Bonefish are an unpredictably excited lot and agile in its movements, but there are myriad locations in the Christmas Island where large large schools of bonefish are a regularity, not an exception. Next only to bonefish, are the trevally that abound the waters of the Christmas Island. The primary trevally species are the Giant, Bluefin and the Golden. The popular way to catch a trevally is Spin-casting. The Trevally is an aggressive kind and a hooking it can be a veritable challenge for every angler. The Giant Trevally is massive and puts up a brave fight before you can put your brakes on them. The anglers can also engage in off-shore pelagic fishing on boats. Ones looking forward to some diversity will surely take delight in catching pelagic fishes like smaller tuna, Mahimahi, and Wahoo.

Fishing Types

  • Fly fishing - Christmas Island has attracted thousands of fly fishers over the years with its lure of the remarkable number of Bonefish and Trevally. The most common salt-water fly rods are the 8 to 9 weight ones. 10, 12 and 14 weights are usually used for the Trevally.
  • Spin Casting - A considerably heavy casting set-up is advisable for those anglers who are not accustomed to the aggressive strikes of the Trevally and the ensuing tug-of-war.

Whether you are a seasoned angler or an amateur, giving it your first shot, Christmas Island fishing will definitely be one-in-a-lifetime experience.
