The Sri Lankan Cricket Team has participated in all the Cricket World Cups since 1975, and has won the World Cup in 1996, defeating the world-champions Australia. The team reached up to the semi-finals in the 2003 World Cup, and is one of the favorite contenders to win the Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.
Sri Lanka is placed in Group B of the World Cup groupings, along with India, Bangladesh and Bermuda. The team will play its first warm-up match against Scotland on March 05, at 3Ws Stadium in Barbados, and it will start its world cup campaign against Bermuda on March 17, in Trinidad and Tobago.
