World Cruises

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel across the globe over the course of several months?  If so, take a world cruise!  A wide range of companies sail ships from major ports to some of the most desired destinations on the planet.  Nothing beats floating from one beautiful location to another while enjoying fine cuisine and luxurious accommodations.

A world cruise is a unique opportunity to visit several cities and encounter a variety of cultures without all the hassles associated with going by air – delayed flights, lost luggage and checking into hotels.  Most companies offer cruises lasting between 75 and 120 days, with prices running anywhere from $13,000 to more than $100,000.  Though that may seem steep, when you factor in the cost of three gourmet meals per day while you’re on the ship – and possibly even on-shore excursions – it’s more reasonable than at first glance.  Plus, if you’d rather just join up for a portion of the cruise, many companies offer 15- or 30-day options for budget-conscious travelers.

Keep in mind it’s impossible to visit every country, but most cruises will visit several ports of call on at least four continents.  You’ll have to decide which ones you want to see most among those available in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Americas.  In addition to spending some time considering which destinations are most important, think about the amenities you want to have while onboard.  Making a list of “musts” will help you figure out the right ship to sail with, as each company has a set of exclusive offerings for your enjoyment.  And, by comparing multiple cruise lines in this way, you can be certain to get the best rate for your dream trip.
When booking your cabin, keep in mind it will be your home away from home for a long time.  Consider reserving a room with a little more space to give you that extra bit of comfort.  Though it’s nice to have an ocean view, you might enjoy an interior-facing cabin with more square footage in the long run.

As the time for your world trip draws near, be sure to check out the etiquette for your ship.  Companies often require semi-formal or formal attire for evening meals and you will want to pack appropriately.  Since you’ll be on the ship for an extended period of time, clarify the policy about dry cleaning services or laundry facilities available beforehand, too.
