Geography of Europe

Europe stretches from the Urals in West Asia to the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The larger parts of Europe are culturally divided into Europe main and Scandinavia. Italy, Iberia and the Balkan region are peninsular. The Mediterranean Sea separates Europe and Africa. The Geography of Europe is varied and complicated, with rivers, mountains, islands, plains and plateaus criss crossing each other.

Southern Europe has mountain terrain, with Alps, Carpathians and Pyrenees forming a mountain chain cutting through highlands, plateaus and river basins. Iceland is a geographically separate entity, and is bounded by sea on all sides. It is also case with UK, alternatively known as Britain and British Isles.

Norway is famous for its fjords, and Spain has the Meseta plain. The East European plain is the largest geographical feature of the continent. Europe also has many landlocked countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Andorra, San Marino, Belarus, Moldova etc.

A description of the geography of Europe will not be complete without a mention of the legendary mountains. Mountains in Europe include Urals, Caucasus, Carpathian, Apennies, Alps, Pennines, Scandinavian Peninsular mountains etc.

The Geography of Europe is made more varied through the rivers of this continent. They include the Danube, Don, Volga, Ural, Oka, Kama, Tagus, Sava, Ebro and Loire. Also worth mentioning under the "Geography of Europe" title are the varied lakes of Europe, like the Constance, Maggiore, Geneva, Lugano, Skadar, Attersse, Bourget, Ploner etc. Many of the European lakes have a city on their shores.
