Angola would be making its first World Cup appearance in the 18th FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany. Angola has been placed in Group D, along with Mexico, Portugal and Iran. Angola will play its first World Cup match against Portugal on 11 June 2006 in Cologne, Germany.

Angola narrowly loses to Portugal

Portugal, tipped as one of the favorites to win the World Cup, had to struggle really hard to maintain its early lead over debutant Angola in a highly entertaining Group D contest in Cologne on 11 June 2006. Though Portugal finally managed to defeat Angola 1-0, Angolans never lost hope to produce an equalizer and impressed everyone with their amazing display. It was the early decisive goal by PAULETA in 4th minute of the game that sealed the fate of the game in Portugal's favor. Angola will play its second match against Mexico on June 16, 2006 at Hanover, Germany.
