The spanking new Cologne stadium is a perfect gift to the football crazy people of Cologne. The stadium was formally opened in 2004. Cologne is Germany's fourth-largest city and unfortunately it missed out on the 1974 FIFA World Cup. The new ultra modern stadium with 46, 000 capacity had to overcome stiff competition from other German cities. Apart from hosting football matches, the stadium has also been a venue for Rolling Stones concerts. The Pope of Vatican city had also addressed the people of Cologne at this stadium.
