In a highly exciting Group G match in Stuttgart on 13 June 2006, Switzerland contested well to deny a victory to favorite France. Both teams had their chances and misses in the game that finally ended in a goalless draw. France had its share of misfortune when Frank Ribery had a great chance to shoot but instead passed the ball to star striker Thierry Henry, who failed convert it to a goal. Switzerland also had the closest chance and miss when a free kick from Tranquillo Barnetta hit the inside of the post and Alexander Frei totally missed convert the rebound. Claude Makelelel of France was declared the Man-of-the-Match.
