    Frankfurt Stadium

The Frankfurt stadium is a minimalist-supporting configuration, which has adequate provisions that allow natural light through the translucent roof. The stadium in Frankfurt with its towering roof looks very much like a cathedral. Construction work at this ultramodern stadium began in the year 2002. The old Waldstadion had its share of sporting memories like the nerve wrecking waterlogged semi-final between West Germany and Poland in 1974 and who would forget the epic Muhammad Ali vs Karl Mildenberger bout in 1966 which was also held in this stadium.

In recent times the new stadium has successfully hosted the FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 Final between Brazil and Argentina.

A staggering 80, 000 cubic metres of concrete and 12, 000 tons of steel were used during the construction of the new stadium. The underground car park can easily accommodate up to 1, 800 cars.

The steel girders and ropes used for the installing the colossal roof weighs close to 2, 500 tonnes and surprisingly the video cube is just 30-tonne which is lightweight by comparison.

The Waldstadion is home turf of Eintracht Frankfurt. The club has produced some great players like Bernd Hölzenbein and Jürgen Grabowski. As part of its commitment towards environmental preservation and the Green Goal environment initiative in particular, the stadium has made adequate provisions for rainwater collection and state-of-the-art drainage facility. The construction cost for the stadium alone was a staggering €126 million and an additional €45 million was invested in upgrading the local road and rail network.
