When the game was looking to be sure draw, a last-gasp goal at (91+') from substitute Oliver Neuville stunned Poland players and fans. Germany beats Costa Rica (4-2)
The host Germany defeated Costa Rica 4-2 in the inaugural match of the FIFA World Cup 2006 on June 09, 2006 in Munich, Germany. The exciting Group A opening contest saw record three goals inside the first 17 minutes, bringing lots of cheers and excitement to football lovers across the world. The German striker Philipp Lahm scored the first goal of the tournament at 6' but Paulo Wanchope equalized the score six minutes later at 12'. Soon the star striker Miroslav Klose restored the Germans' lead at 17'. Miroslav striked again at 61', providing a definite edge to Germany. Paulo Wanchope scored second goal for Costa Rica and brought some hope for the team, but the 4th goal by German midfielder Torsten Frings towards the close of the game seized the fate in favor of Germany. Miroslav Klose of Germany was declared the Man-of-the-Match.
