Poland overcomes defiant Costa Rica (2-1)
Poland overcame defiant Costa Rica 2-1 and resorted some pride in an enthralling Group A match in Hanover on June 20, 2006. Costa Rica started impressively and took 1-0 lead in the 25-th minute from a goal from Ronald Gomez. Poland fought back just after 8 minutes when Bartosz Bosacki produced a spectacular equalizer. Bosacki struck again in second-half in the 66-th minute, providing the only consolation win for his team. Bartosz Bosacki was declared Man-of-the-Match for his wonderful all-round performance.
Germany beats Ecuador (3-0)
Germany defeated Ecuador 3-0 in their last Group A contest in Berlin on 20 June 2006, topping the Group in style. The German star striker Miroslav Klose produced a spectacular goal in just 4-th minute. He struck again in 44-th minute followed by a fine goal from teammate Lukas Podolski in 57-th minute. Michael Ballack (GER) was declared Man-of-the-Match for his superb all-round performance. |
Ecuador crushes Costa Rica (3-0)
Ecuador literally crushed Costa Rica (3-0) in an enthralling Group A contest in Hamburg on June 15, 2006. With this spectacular win, Ecuador qualified for the knockout Rounds of 16 of the FIFA World Cup for the first time. Carlos Tenorio scored the first goal for Ecuador in just (8'), while Agustin Delgado doubled the advantage for his team in (54'). A superb goal from Ivan Kaviedes in the injury time ended the hope of both Costa Rica and Poland to advance in the last 16. Agustin Delgado was declared the Man-of-the-Match for his good all-round performance.
Germany overcomes determined Poland (1-0)
In a truly enthralling Group A encounter in Dortmund, the host Germany stunned the determined and indefatigable Poland by scoring a goal in the first minute of added time. Both teams displayed wonderful performance in the game and had their shares of scoring chances and misses. When the game was looking to be sure draw, a last-gasp goal at (91+') from substitute Oliver Neuville stunned Poland players and fans. It was the second successive win for Germany and also the second successive lose for unfortunate Poland. Philipp Lahm (GER) was declared the Man-of-the-Match for his impressive all-round performance and dramatic German victory against Poland.
Ecuador stuns Poland (2-0)
Ecuador started its World Cup 2006 campaign in a memorable way by defeating Poland (2-0) in the second match of the tournament at Gelsenkirchen, Germany. In a yet another hard-fought Group A contest, Ecuador finally managed to score twice and win the game 2-0. Ecuadorian striker Carlos Tenorio converted a flicked header from Agustin Delgado into a beautiful goal at 24'. Poland tried really hard to produce an equalizer, but the second goal from the star striker Agustin Delgado at 80' seized the fate of the game in Ecuador favor. Agustin Delgado was declared the Man-of-the-Match.

Germany beats Costa Rica (4-2)
The host Germany defeated Costa Rica 4-2 in the inaugural match of the FIFA World Cup 2006 on June 09, 2006 in Munich, Germany. The exciting Group A opening contest saw record three goals inside the first 17 minutes, bringing lots of cheers and excitement to football lovers across the world. The German striker Philipp Lahm scored the first goal of the tournament at 6' but Paulo Wanchope equalized the score six minutes later at 12'.Soon the star striker Miroslav Klose restored the Germans' lead at 17'. Miroslav striked again at 61', providing a definite edge to Germany. Paulo Wanchope scored second goal for Costa Rica and brought some hope for the team, but the 4th goal by German midfielder Torsten Frings towards the close of the game seized the fate in favor of Germany. Miroslav Klose of Germany was declared the Man-of-the-Match.
