The World Champions Brazil continued their World Cup 2006 winning spree when they defeated Australia 2-0 in a thrilling Group F contest in Munich on 18 June 2006. Brazil qualified for the Round of 16 with this spectacular win over Australia. Australia posed a tough challenge for Brazilians in the first-half and both goals were scored in the second-half. Adriano scored the first goal in the 49-th minute, while the second goal was scored in the last minute of the match by Fred, removing the threat of equalizer by indefatigable Australians. The Brazilian midfielder Ze Roberto was declared the Man-of-the-Match for his excellent all-round performance.

Today on 13th June 2006, the World Champions Brazil defeated indefatigable Croatia 1-0 in a truly enthralling Group F encounter in Berlin. Brazil couldn't really break through and had to struggle really hard to beat the well-organized Croatian side. The decisive goal of the match was scored by the veteran Brazilian midfielder Kaka, just a minute before the interval. Kaka was declared the Man-of-the-Match for his spectacular winning goal and all-round performance.
Australia stuns Japan (3-1)
Australia literally stunned favorite Japan by defeating them 3-0 in their opening Group F contest in Kaiserslautern on June 12, 2006. Japan was leading the game 1-0 until 84th minute and was looking a sure winner, and then Australian substitute striker Tim Cahill produced a superb equalizer to make the score 1-1. Before Japanese could settle from this undesired late setback, Cahill struck again in 89th minute. It was not the end of agony for Japanese, as striker John Aloisi scored the third goal for Australia in the injury time, finishing all hopes for the unfortunate Japan. |
