The city of Hanover is fully geared up to provide football
fans who are expected to converge from all over the world
for the FIFA World Cup 2006, with a truly sophisticated football
stadium. Construction work on the esteemed Niedersachsenstadion
was completed well in advance of the December 2004 deadline.
The Hanover stadium has a seating capacity of 50, 000 and one
of its most striking characteristics is the free-standing,
2, 500 tonne roof supporting structure. The roof has been installed
in such a manner so as to cover the playing arena and has
been constructed of ultra-violet permeable foil, which ensures
that the pitch receives the optimum amount of light to be
in ideal playing condition.
Another noteworthy feature of the playing area is the facility
of under-soil heating and drainage. The old floodlights have
been removed and in their place a hi-tech mounted lighting
system, encompassing 150 1, 500 Lux spotlights have been installed.
Two 41 square metre LED video screens will provide match information
and other miscellaneous entertainment. There is also a 26, 400
watt PA system consisting of 66 loudspeakers which will provide
superb audio effects.
