France overcame a defiant Portugal 1-0 in the highly exciting second semi-final match of the FIFA World Cup in Munich on July 05, 2006. Both sides displayed a superb game, but it was the first-half penalty, which the French captain Zinedine Zidane successfully converted into a goal in the (33'), made all the difference. Italy stunned the host Germany by defeating them 2-0 in a truly enthralling first semi-final match in Dortmund on July 4, 2006. Both teams played superbly, and had their share of chances and misses. But when a penalty shoot-out was looking imminent after 29 minute of extra-time play, Italian striker Fabio Grosso scored a superb goal in the 119-th minute, crushing the dreams of Germany reaching to the FIFA World Cup Final. The second goal was scored by the substitute Alessandro Del Piero in the (121+'). Andrea Pirlo (ITA) was declared the Man-of-the-Match for his superb all-round performance.
