    World Cup Trophy

    The FIFA World Cup Trophy is awarded to winners of the World Cup, which is held at an interval of every four years. Prior to 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, the Jules Rimet Trophy was awarded to the World Cup winner. Brazil's in third victory in the 9th World Cup in 1970, entitled them to keep the Jules Rimet Trophy trophy permanently. In 1974 World Cup, a replacement trophy, officially known as the FIFA World Cup Trophy, was awarded to West Germany in Munich. FIFA also decided not to award the World Cup Trophy permanently to Cup winners, irrespective of how many World Cups they win. The FIFA World Cup Trophy will be awarded until its retirement in 2038 World Cup, when its name plaque is estimated to be entirely filled. Argentina, Germany and Brazil have all won the new World Cup Trophy twice, while Italy and France won it once.

    The FIFA World Cup Trophy was designed by an Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga. His design was selected from a total of 53 designs submitted by renowned artists from seven countries. The trophy depicts two human figures holding up the Earth. Made of 18-carat gold and malachite, the FIFA World Cup Trophy measures 36 cm in lentgh and weighs approximately 6, 175 grams. Its base contains two layers of malachite with space for 17 small plaques, with visible engravings of name of the World Cup winners. According to new FIFA rules, the World Cup winners retain the trophy until the next tournament and are awarded a gold-plated replica thereafter. The winners of FIFA World Cup Trophy are as follows: Germany (1974 and 1990), Argentina (1978 and 1986), Brazil (1994 and 2002), Italy (1982) and France (1998).
