The Kent International Airport traces its origins to the Manston Aerodrome that was established in 1915 to tackle sorties during the First World War. The aerodrome also became a training school for pilots. The airport started its civilian operations in 1960.
In 1989, Manston Aerodrome was named "Kent International Airport" and underwent a renovation. The airport has the 4th largest runway in UK. Today, the airport has a passenger terminal, car park, shuttle service from nearby cities of Chatham and Bluewater.
In 2005, the Kent International Airport had to suspend its passenger flight operations due to financial constraints. It was acquired by the Infatil group that has experience in developing airports in all parts of the globe. |
