Hotels in Las Vegas

There are few places in the world that can evoke the image of swanky fun quite like Sin City. Whether you are in the mood for a risqué getaway with your friends or an entertaining weekend with your spouse, the hotels in Las Vegas have plenty to offer. Once known almost exclusively as a gambling town, the last decade has seen casinos undergo an amazing transformation into full-service entertainment venues. You will still be able to put a hundred dollars on red, of course, but the emphasis has shifted toward the massive Broadway-style theaters, gorgeous shopping centers, and top-rated restaurants. No matter where you go, you will find something well worth your time.

The biggest decision you will have to make, regardless of what you want to experience, is where you will lay your head at the end of the night (or beginning of the morning). With that in mind, here are a handful of the top choices in a variety of budgets, both on The Strip and off:

The Venetian

Located on the northern end of Las Vegas Boulevard, you will find the Italian theme of this offering from the InterContinental group a lush home away from home. Known for the gondola rides available in its indoor-outdoor canal, you’ll find romance around every corner. One of the earliest hotels to emphasize other amenities, the Canyon Ranch SpaClub is an excellent place to escape the hectic pace of the casino floor and relax before a night on the town.

MGM Grand

You’ll be greeted by a two-story golden lion as you walk through the front doors of this sleek green hotel at the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas. Made famous as the location for many of the biggest boxing matches in the last thirty years, there is much more on display here – its shows are some of the best-rated in the city. With some careful planning, you might catch a platinum-selling comedian and a mind-bending set of illusions from a world famous magician in the same night!

Imperial Palace

Set back from the flashing lights of The Strip, this budget hotel and resort has plenty worth seeing. Known to reflect more of a “Classic Vegas” feel, it is home to one of the world’s largest car showrooms (over 250 vehicles) and the Rockhouse night club – voted “Best Place to Party” by locals, which is saying something in Sin City. Plus, it is centrally located along Las Vegas Boulevard, allowing you to quickly access the more expensive hotels without paying high dollar for a room you’re barely going to sleep in anyway.

Golden Gate Hotel and Casino

Many people arrive in Las Vegas with little understanding of its history. What is seen now – the bright lights and skyscraping towers – is not the original spot where the city gained its famed reputation for excitement around the gaming table. Fremont Street is “Old Vegas,” but there’s plenty of new attractions. The best choice in this more economical portion of Sin City, you’ll love seeing the blend of 1920s-themed rooms and modern amenities. And, with one of the highest-rated shrimp cocktails in the city, you can get your hands on a Vegas tradition while still having chips for the craps table.

Las Vegas Hilton

For some, the noise and activity of The Strip is too much to handle. If you are the type who wants to get a good night’s sleep after a long day and night on the town, you’ll love heading to his luxurious chain hotel a block east of Las Vegas Boulevard. Long regarded for being one of the best places to watch sports, you will enjoy the intimate theater performances from national acts, as well as the authentic Chinese cuisine at Garden of the Dragon.

The Bellagio

If you watched in awe as George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and the rest of the crew pulled off their heist in Ocean’s Eleven, you will find this home to their caper an ideal location. The water show on the property’s 12-acre lake is something everyone can enjoy, but stepping onto the casino floor or taking in a performance of Cirque du Soleil’s O will put you in another world. This is the epitome of Las Vegas luxury, featuring fine dining and beautiful attractions in stunning surroundings.

CityCenter

The newest of The Strip’s many options, this is actually three hotels in one. Depending on what your budget and your interests, you can choose from Aria, Vdara, and the spectacular Mandarin Oriental. Just as its name implies, this destination is designed to be everything you might need encapsulated in one relatively small area. Crystals, the shopping and entertainment scene at the center of it all, features stores from the world’s finest designers and best-known acts. This is a place to go if you are in the mood to turn on the style – every inch of this modern design hints at the elegance found further within.
