Minnows of world cricket have often found themselves in the most embarrassing situations. Almost all of them have faced the ignominy of making the lowest scores in Cricket World Cups.
A total of 16 teams participated in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in West Indies. Out of these, about eight could be easily classified as underdogs. Countries like Namibia, Canada, Bermuda, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh are considered as inconsequential opponents by stronger teams, and have often been dismissed for the lowest scores in Cricket World Cups.
However, Kenya and Bangladesh have been involved in some of the biggest World Cup upsets, defeating the best of teams. The former had even managed to reach semifinals of Cricket World Cup 2003. But, Namibia, Canada and Scotland have time and again come up with the lowest scores in Cricket World Cups.
In the ninth edition of this quadrennial event, Ireland were bundled out by the Sri Lankan team at the score of 77 runs. The record of second lowest total of the tournament is also in the name of Ireland. They were bowled out at 91 runs by the Australian team.
In the 2003 edition, Canada registered the lowest score in Cricket World Cup. They were bowled out for a meager 36 runs in 18.4 overs, in a game against Sri Lanka at Paarl, South Africa. Namibia are the second-worst scorers in Cricket World Cups. In a match against Australia at Potchefstroom, they were bundled out for just 45 runs in 14 overs in the 2003 World Cup.
