Retaining most of the members of World Cricket League squad, Canada has announced a fairly balanced team for the ICC World Cup 2007 in West Indies.
Skippered by John Davison, Canada’s World Cup squad is expected to pose a threat to the other minnows in this tournament. The team has put up commendable performances in many of its games against lowly sides, and has even beaten Kenya once.
With players like vice-captain Ashish Bagai and Kevin Sandher on their side, Canada’s World Cup squad can nurture hopes of victory. Bagai was recently named the Player of the Tournament for World Cricket League, and will be expected to keep the Canadian flag flying high in the World Cup as well.
All-rounders Don Maxwell and Sandeep Jyoti were the only surprise omissions in the Canadian World Cup team. Batsmen Ian Billcliff and Geoff Barnett have made it to the World Cup in their place.
In its third attempt at the World Championship, Canada have been pitted against New Zealand, England and Kenya. The Canadian World Cup squad plays its first match of the tournament against Kenya on 14th March at St. Lucia. They will then contest England and New Zealand at the same venue on 18th and 22nd of March respectively.
