For the World Cup 2007, Ireland have decided not to disturb their winning combination that contested of the ICC World Cricket League. The Ireland World Cup squad will be debutants in the ninth edition of this quadrennial extravaganza.
Under the guidance of coach Adrian Birrell, Ireland’s World Cup squad is led by Trent Johnston and comprises the best available talent in this relatively new cricketing nation. Nonetheless, some players in this team have made a mark in the international arena and are already playing English county cricket.
Skipper Johnson made his debut in June 2006 and has played seven ODIs since then. Despite his limited exposure to international cricket, he is a promising prospect for the Ireland World Cup team. His right-arm fast bowling has been quite accurate and deceptive in the past, and he’ll surely look to unleash his magic on other lowly teams in ICC World Cup 2007.
Niall O’Brien is the wicketkeeper of Ireland’s World Cup squad. Having played merely seven ODIs, he has already booked a berth in county cricket because of his talent. Brien’s perseverance and impressive performances have made him a key player in Ireland team.
Batsmen Eoin Morgan and Kenneth Carroll, bowlers Andrew White and Paul Mooney, along with all-rounders Andre Botha and Kyle McCallan are expected to put up decent performances from the Irish World Cup squad.
