Long considered underdogs of international cricket, Kenya are keen to shed this tag and prove their mettle at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in West Indies. The announcement of Kenyan squad for World Cup held no surprises as the 15 men in World Cricket League squad were retained for this tournament as well.
In the last World Cup in 2003, Kenya, despite being rank newcomers, had managed to climb up to the semi-finals where their dream run was halted by India.
For World Cup, the Kenyan squad is even stronger and more experienced. Having played more number of international matches this time around, they have got used to handling pressure situations and strategizing their game.
Thomas Odoyo, the vice-captain of Kenya’s World Cup squad is a cricketer par excellence. Known for his skillfulness at all aspects of the game, Odoyo will have to play an important role in Kenya’s World Cup campaign.
Collins Obuya and Peter Ongando will be the mainline bowlers in Kenya’s World Cup team. Ravindu Shah, Tanmay Mishra and wicketkeeper David Obuya will be highly dependable as far as the Kenyan batting order is concerned.
The biggest disappointment has been in the form of bowling all-rounder Martin Suji. One of the most experienced men in the Kenyan team, Suji could not recover from an injury on time, and thus had to be kept out of the World Cup 2007.
