The choice of New Zealand’s World Cup squad has been quite predictable. Daryl Tuffey is the only surprise inclusion, brought in after an injury to regular Kyle Mills. Tuffey was in hibernation since his shoulder injury two years ago.
The World Cup squad for New Zealand will be led by the one and only Stephen Fleming, who’s probably playing in his last World Cup. Fleming is an exceptional leader, and has played a big role in making New Zealand one of the most respected teams world over.
The batting department will depend on likes of Brendon McCullum (also the wicketkeeper), Mark Gillespie and Peter Fulton. These players are not very experienced and thus will look forward to making a mark in an event of such magnitude. The services of Nathan Astle will truly be missed during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in West Indies.
The New Zealand World Cup squad seems to be loaded with bowlers. Shane Bond, Jacob Oram, Daryl Tuffey, Michael Mason, Daniel Vettori, James Franklin are all prominent bowlers in their own right. Vettori is the most experienced of this lot, and along with Bond, will be the mainstays of the spin and pace departments respectively.
New Zealand’s all-round talent base comprises names like Craig McMillan, Lou Vincent and Scott Styris. These players can add life to a dull game by coming up with excellent performances when least expected.
Ross Taylor, Jeetan Patel and Mark Gillespie are the fairly new names in New Zealand’s World Cup squad. These cricketers will also look up to the World Cup for the right kind of exposure.
