Relative newcomers Scotland will be looking forward to the World Cup 2007 as a platform where they can showcase their fresh talent to the cricketing world. The Scotland World Cup squad is fairly inexperienced, but full of zeal and passion for the game of cricket.
Given their recent successes, Scotland have selected the same side that had contested in the World Cricket League. Grouped with Australia, South Africa and the Netherlands in the ICC World Cup 2007 in West Indies, Scotland cannot fancy being victorious. However, the Scottish World Cup squad does stand a chance against minnows Netherlands.
Captained by Craig Wright, Scotland are hoping to do the impossible. With timely contributions from some of its key players, Scotland can become the cause behind major upsets in the ninth edition of World Cup. Wright has been inspirational as a leader and can put up some excellent all-round shows as part of Scotland’s World Cup squad.
Vice-captain Ryan Watson is another key player in the Scotland team. His credibility both as a batsman and bowler can motivate other juniors in the side. For Scotland to fare well in the World Cup, it is very important that Watson sets the stands ablaze.
Colin Smith and Fraser Watts are two of the leading batsmen in Scotland’s World Cup squad. The former, also a wicketkeeper, will have to take a major share of responsibilities on his shoulder.
John Blain, Glenn Rogers and Dewald Nel are the biggest hopes, as far as the bowling department of Scotland World Cup squad is concerned.
