Kiwis hammer Kenya to cruise into Super Eights
Victory in the first two matches of ICC world cup ensured that kiwis cruise to ICC Cricket World Cup Super Eights. The 148-run win over Kenya at the Beausejour Cricket Ground assured the New Zealanders a qualifying spot in the Super Eights.
Earlier in the match New Zealand faced early hiccups as Lou Vincent's was caught behind for a duck. But four impressive half centuries ensured that the kiwis had a massive total of 331 to defend. Man of the match Ross Taylor scored impressive 85 runs; his innings gave stability to the New Zealand batting line up. After his departure Craig McMillan opened a brutal attack on Kenyan blowers he scored 71 runs of just 48 balls. His innings included five sixes and three fours.
Styris and Stephen Fleming too unleashed the attack on the Kenyan team as they scored 63 and 60 runs respectively. The collective effort of the batsmen took the kiwis well past the psychological 300 mark. In fact 331 is the highest total scored by New Zealand in ICC World cup matches.
Kenya faced the worst possible start as their top order batsmen faltered. At the twelfth over they lost four wickets at the score of 29. The Kenyan never really seemed to have survived the early blows. Ravindu Shah's was the only notable batsmen who played a gritty and stable innings of 71 runs.
