The 9th ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 in West Indies has been expected to be the biggest cricketing extravaganza, the world has ever seen. For the first time in the ICC World Cup history, national cricket teams of 16 countries would be participating in the tournament. The participating teams are divided into four groups- Group A, Group B, Group C and Group D, with each group having 4 teams, including at least two high-ranking teams. The tournament will see a total of 51 one-day international played over a 47-day period, that includes 24 First-Stage Group Matches, 24 Second-Stage Super 8 Matches, 2 Semi-finals and the Final.
The winner and runner-up from each group will qualify for the Super 8 Round, scheduled during 27 March-21 April 2007 at CWC venues at Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada and Guyana. The first match in Super 8 category will be played between winner of Group A and runner-up of Group D at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda, while the last match will see the runner-up of Group C and Group D in action at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
Super Eight matches will see all-important teams in action and promises to be the most interesting phase of the ICC World Cup tournament.
