World Champions Australia announced their arrival into Cricket World Cup 2007 with a magnificent 106-run victory over underdogs Zimbabwe at Arnos Vale Stadium, St. Vincent. This victory brought an end to their recent losing streak that saw them tumbling from the numero uno spot on ICC Team Rankings.
Despite their victory, the Aussies will be worried about the performance of their bowlers in the Australia vs. Zimbabwe warm-up match. Batting first, Australia scored 290 runs, with Michael Clarke and Shane Watson making 82 and 81 runs respectively.
The target seemed quite distant for Zimbabweans, who were eventually bundled out for 184 runs. Sean Williams (44) and Stuart Matsikenyeri (35), in a 67-run fourth-wicket stand were the only saving grace for Zimbabwe. None of the Australian bowlers managed to deliver spellbinding performances. The team surely missed the services of veterans like Shane Warne and Brett Lee.
