In the most shocking of all warm-up match results in Cricket World Cup 2007, underdogs Bangladesh defeated New Zealand by two wickets at the Three Ws Oval Stadium in Barbados. Riding on a superb all-round performance by veteran Mashrafe Mortaza, Bangladesh have induced an upset that’ll haunt the Kiwis as they enter the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
New Zealand, batting first, set a target of 227 runs for the Bangladeshis. After being reduced to 34 for 4, the Kiwis were rescued by Jacob Oram, who hit a blistering 88 runs and shared in a brilliant 105-run partnership with wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum. Bangladesh started off on a high note and had good contributions from all key players. Mortaza, who had claimed 4/44 earlier in the day, scored a quick unbeaten 30, hitting two towering sixes in the penultimate over to take his team to victory.
Although the Bangladesh vs. New Zealand warm-up match will not be considered as an official one-dayer, Bangladesh are riding high on confidence and will look forward to more such performances during the main tournament
