Sri Lanka proved their might in the warm-up match against Scotland, and emerged as one of the top contenders for the world championship title in ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. Lanka’s world-class batsmen displayed their class and routed Scotland to a 159-run defeat in their practice game.
Played at the 3Ws Oval in Barbados, the Sri Lanka vs. Scotland match was a convenient batting practice session for Lankan veterans Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara, as they raced to well-made 77 and 81 respectively. Former skipper Jayasuriya fired on all cylinders, thumping four fours and five sixes in his 62-ball 77.
Scotland, on the other hand, never seemed to be in the game. They were not even in the reckoning and kept losing wickets at close intervals. The Scottish were eventually skittled out for just 135 runs. Hamilton, with 25 runs, was the only face-saver for Scotland.
