Chinese New Year History

Knowing about the Chinese New Year History not only makes one understand the origin of the Chinese New Year but is also a fascinating one to read on. Talking about the Chinese New Year History is really confusing as it really puzzles one to see so many legends going behind its origin. Though tracing the Chinese New Year History is a tough job but we, at Travour have tried our best to let you know the Chinese New Year History.

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival as it starts from the beginning of Spring. According to one legend, the Jade Emperor thought of a way to measure time and he told that on his birthday there will be a animal swimming race. The first twelve animal winners will have each a year named after them. Of all the animals the twelve that won were Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. As promised they were given a year each and came to be known as the Chinese New Year Animals.

Another legend says that there was a man-eating beast called Nian, who used to infiltrate houses. Sooner or later the Chinese came to know that he was sensitive to fire and loud noises. Since then the Chinese started burning fireworks on the Chinese New Year. Till date the custom of burning is associated with the Chinese New Year and it is no doubt part of the Chinese New Year History.
