The Romans
According to the New Year History, the Romans celebrated the New Year on 1 st March. Later when Emperor Julius Caesar began a new calendar and changed the New Year date with January 1 st being the New Year's Day. You will be surprised to know that January itself is named after the Roman God Janus. “Calends ” or the Roman New Year Festival was celebrated with pomp and show in the ancient Rome.
Ancient Egypt
Talking about the New Year History, one gets to know that in ancient Egypt, New Year was celebrated towards the end of September coinciding with the flooding of River Nile. Considered as an important event, the flooding of Nile because without it growing the crops was a difficult task. New Year celebrations in Egypt were accompanied with activities like singing, dancing and feasting.
