New Year's Day

January 1 st , yes this is the date popularly known as, the New Year's Day. Being the first day of the New Year, New Year's Day has its own significance. Many believe that if the New Year's Day is clear, the harvest will be good, whereas if the trees are covered with frost, the year ahead will be good. On the contrary if there is thick fog, people will die and there will be a spread of epidemic. Moreover, it is believed that with whatever we begin our New Year's Day will predict the coming year. Take for instance; if one starts it with prayers, the year ahead will go smooth with religious works.

History of New Year's Day

Initially the Romans celebrated the New Year's Day in the month of March but later it was changed to January 1 st by Julius Caesar. It was done to honor the Roman God “Janus” , after whom January was named. Janus was depicted by two faces, one looking back to the old year and one looking ahead to the New Year.
