Tour to Kenya

Kenya is one of the major countries of Africa and an immensely popular tourist destination of the world. Kenya has a large diversity of landscapes, namely mountains, beaches and desert areas. But majority of the country is covered by an open, grassy plain called savanna. The savannas are home to a multitude of animals, including lions, giraffes, leopards, antelopes, zebras, elephants, rhinoceros and many more.

Tourist Attractions in Kenya : Spread over more than 583, 000 kms, Kenya holds in itself some of the most splendid tourist attractions in the world. From a tour of the high peaks of Mount Kenya to the splendid beaches in the east of Kenya to the vast savanna lands of the Masai Mara region, Kenya holds something for everyone.

Tall peaks, deep canyons, waving grasslands and sandy beaches cover the land, with each region having its own landscape, climate and wildlife.

Coastline of Kenya : Kenya's coastline stretches about 300 miles along the southeastern region of the country. Here, Kenya's shoreline meets the waters of the Indian Ocean. The busy port of Mombasa is one of the major coastal cities of Kenya.

White, sandy beaches line Kenya's coast and the many lagoons lying offshore. These shallow pools of seawater are separated from the ocean by narrow strips of land, providing a breathtaking landscape to the region. Coconut and sandalwood trees dot the beaches of Kenya and nearby areas. Kenya's longest river, the Tana, flows from central Kenya to the coast, making excellent swamplands teeming with all kinds of wildlife. These lagoons and swamplands are home to two of the many fascinating animals of Kenya, the hippo and the crocodile. Tropical fish, like the barracuda, marlins and yellowfin tuna, swim in the ocean waters near the coast.

Kenya's coastal region is hot and humid all year round. The average temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the region receives around 40 inches of rainfall each year.

The Plains of Kenya : Kenya's plains lie north and west beyond the coastal regions. The plain region, also called the Savanna, covers about two-thirds of Kenya. The major vegetation in this area are thorny scrubs, acacias and baobab trees. Grass covers much of the high plains in the west. Bamboo thickets and acacia grow near the rivers, including the Athi, which is one of Kenya's largest rivers.

This savanna region is home to some of the most magnificent animals in the world. African buffalo, elephantns, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and antelopes feed on the region's tall grasses. Predators of Kenya such as cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, leopards, lions and wild dogs hunt for food in this region.

It is in the Masai Mara, a vast savanna region in Kenya, that the greatest migration on the planet takes place.

Each year, driven by a force man cannot comprehend, more than two million Wildebeest, interspersed by herds of Zebras, cross the Mara river from Tanzania to eat the lush grass resulting from the seasonal rains in Kenya. It is this spectacular display that lures predators and tourists to Kenya.

The Highlands of Kenya : The highlands in central and western Kenya form a large plateau with rolling hills that cover about one-fourths of the country. Nairobi, the capital of Kenya and it's biggest city, lies on these highlands. The Great Rift Valley runs through the highlands. Many lakes and waterways lie near the Great Rift Valley.

The climate in the highlands is mild with temperatures averaging 67 degrees Fahrenheit and average annual rainfall being 40 to 50 inches. This mild weather helps to make the highlands the most fertile region in Kenya. About 80 percent of Kenya's people, many of them farmers, make their homes here.
