Masai Mara

Located about 225 km west of Nairobi in southwestern Kenya, the Masai Mara is one of finest national park in the African continent. Nestled amidst the Great African Rift Valley, and adjoining to the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania, the Masai Mara is regarded the finest game reserve in Kenya and one of the finest in the world. The Masai Mara National Park covers an area of approx. 1, 500 sq km, mostly comprising of open rolling savannah grasslands.


Named after the world-famous Masai Tribes and the Mara River, the national park is known for its rich density of game, promising a wonderful expereince for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.


Wildlife in Masai Mara National Park is rich and varied and game density is exceptional, ensuring better opportunities for game veiwing. Besides 'Big Five'- Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Rhinoceros and Cape Buffaloes - Masai Mara is home to millions of wildebeests, zebras and gazelles. Other major wildlife species found in the park include Cheetah, Hyenas, Jackals, Elands, Impalas, Hartebeests, white-bearded Gnu, Oribi, Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, and Roan Antelopes. Masai Mara also shelters over 450 species of birds, including migratory birds.


Bird lovers can spot a variety of avifauna in the park such as Vultures, Long-crested Eagles, Hornbills, Ostrich, Pygmy Falcons, Orange buff Pel's Fishing Owls, Red Winged Schalow's Turacos, Guinea Fowls, Marabous, Secretary Birds, and Ross Turacos among others. The annual migration of millions of wildebeests and zebras in June-September, from the adjoining Serengeti National Park, is truly fascinating. Known as the 'Great Migration', it's surely one of the world's most impressive natural spectacles, involving around two millions of Wildebeests, Thomson's Gazelles and Zebras.
