By Air
There are two small airports in Dominica. On the north east coast is the Melville Hall airport and on the south west coast is the Canefield airport. This makes getting to Dominica easier.
However none of these are international airports, though Melville Hall airport has a longer runway and can accommodate medium sized planes of inter-regional airlines. These flights can be availed from the nearby islands of Guadeloupe (nearest one), Antigua to the north and Martinique and Lucia to the south. Beyond these are St. Marten to the north and Barbados and Grenada to the south.
International flights from US and Europe are connected to Dominica from these hubs in the neighboring islands. Leeward Island Transport (LIAT), Caribbean Sun are the two airlines that complete this last leg of journey to Dominica. There are also connecting flights of LIAT and American Eagle from San Juan in Puerto Rico.
By Sea
While getting to Dominica is easier by flight, the sea route is nevertheless amazing and refreshing. Visitors are ferried to Dominica from Guadeloupe, Martinique and St. Lucia
in a 300 seater catamaran operated by L'Express Des Iles. The Caribbean Ferries is a similar service that ferries that helps visitors getting to Dominica. The cruise ships are berthed at the Bayfront, Woodbridge Bay, and Cabrits in Dominica where thousands of visitors arrive all year round.
In Dominica Buses are reliable modes of transport operated by the private bus owners. There are bus stops at designated points throughout the city. While bus service is fairly frequent during day, night service is not reliable.
