DESTINATIONS IN DALMATIA
SPLIT is the main city in Dalmatia and is one of the largest cites in Croatia. In fact, it is the largest city on Croatia's Adriatic coast. The city was established at the end of the 3rd century AD when Roman Emperor Diocletian built his palace here. The palace has been preserved well and is at the heart of the city.
Many of Split's historical and cultural monuments are located within the walls of the Palace. One of them is Peristile, the main open space in the Palace with its colonnade of six columns and the cathedral on eastern side of the square.
Split has it's own airport that connects to Zagreb as well as other international cities. Various ferry lines connect Split with the nearby Adriatic islands of Korcula, Vis and Lastovo. There is also a ferry service between the city and Rijeka to the north and Dubrovnik to the south. There are daily ferries during summers between the city and Ancona in Italy.
