The Duomo in Milan, Italy, is the second largest Roman Catholic cathedral in the world, after the cathedral of Seville. A beautiful masterpiece of gothic architecture, the Duomo of Milan is world-renowned for its enormous size, and elaborate design and style, with wide gates, impressive pillars, vaults and streamlined arches, and intricate and vast interiors. Situated on the main square in the heart of Milan, the Duomo measures approx.108 meters in height and 158 meters in length, and can sit up to 40, 000 people at a time. The cathedral's five great doors are divided by 40 colossal pillars, and its large windows of the choir were once reputed to be the largest in the world. The central door of the structure is sculpted with images of birds and fruits and beasts and insects, which appear like living creatures.
