Getting to Naples


The third-largest Italian city, Naples is famous for its picture perfect setting, fascinating medieval architecture, varieties of pizzas (pizza was invented in Naples only), and of course proximity to Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii. Naples has an international airport, with all major airlines operating direct or connecting flights to the city from destinations across Europe and the United States. Naples also has excellent rail and road networks, connecting it to several important cities in Italy and Europe.

 

Getting to Naples by Air: Naples has an international airport - Capodichino Airport, located just 8km northeast of the Naples's city center. Flights are by far the quickest and cheapest way of getting to Naples. There are regular flights to Naples from London, Paris and Amsterdam. There are no direct flights to Naples from the USA or Canada, and you can either land to Rome or Milan to reach the city. Alitalia and Delta Airlines fly direct to Rome and Milan from New York and Toronto. Other major airlines operating regular flights to Naples include British Airways, American Airlines, Air France, Ryanair, Iberia, KLM and Lufthansa.

Getting to Naples by Train: Naples is the hub of the southern Italian train network, and so the city is well connected by frequent trains to all major cities across Italy. High-speed trains arrive and depart from its two stations- Stazione Centrale or Stazione Garibaldi. Naples has excellent train services to Rome, Milan, Bologna and Florence. Naples is just 2 hours train journey from Rome.

Getting to Naples by Road: Naples has a superb road networks, connecting it to major cities of Italy. The A1 motorway connects Naples to Rome, Milan, Bologna, Venice, Florence and many other cities of Italy. Though there is no centralized bus station in Naples, most long-distance buses arrive and leave from various locations around Piazza Garibaldi.

Getting to Naples by Sea: Ferries and hydrofoils services connect Naples to Capri Island, Sorrento Peninsula, Ischia, Procida and Forio, as well as distant Palermo, Cagliari, Milazzo, the Aeolian Islands and Tunisia.
