Getting to Rome

Rome, the capital city of Italy, is a leading business and tourist destination in the world, and so getting to Rome is certainly not a problem. Most convenient way to reach Rome is by air, as almost all major international airlines operate direct or connecting flights to the city's Fiumicino International Airport from destinations across the world. Rome also enjoys state-of-the-art rail and road networks, connecting it to all major cities across Italy and Europe, and you can easily reach the city from Paris, London (via Paris), Munich, Vienna and Zurich by a train. Ferry and hydrofoil services also connect Rome to major ports in Europe via Civitavecchia, which is just one-hour train journey from the city.

Getting to Rome by Air: Rome has two major airports - Fiumicino International Airport (also known as Leonardo da Vinci) and Ciampino Airport. Almost all major international airlines, including Alitalia, Air France, Air Canada, British Airways, Continental Airlines, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Delta Airlines and Lufthansa operate direct or connecting flights to Rome's Fiumicino Airport from cities across the world. The airport is around 30 km from the city center with good rail and road connection.

Over 100 low cost, domestic and charter carriers use Ciampino Airport, which is just 9 miles southeast of the city center. Major airlines operating flights to Ciampino (mainly from London) include Ryanair, Easyjet, Air Sicilia, Britannia and Corsair. Ciampino is also used as a military airbase.

Getting to Rome by Rail: Rome has excellent rail network, connecting it to all major cities in Italy and Europe. The Termini Station (Stazione Termini) of Rome has direct international trains from Paris, London (via Paris), Munich, Vienna and Zurich. Eurostar and intercity trains also connect Rome to major Italian cities like Florence, Bologna, Milan and Naples.

Getting to Rome by Road: Italy has a superb road network of over 173, 000 km, including 6, 500km of motorways, connecting all parts of the country. Rome is well connected by road to all major cities of Italy and Europe. The A1 motorway connects Rome to Florence, Milan and Venice (via A13). Eurolines Italia runs international coaches, with connections to cities throughout Europe, such as Paris and London (via Paris). Buses to other Italian cities and to European destinations leave from the Tiburtina Train Station, as there is no central coach station in Rome.
