Spain can truly be called troller's delight. Salmon is found in 26 rivers that drench the Cantabrian range and the Galician Coast. There are also fishes like large barbel, lusty trout and huge carp. Famous fishing places are Deva-Cares, Navia, Sella, Narcea, Asón rivers and Pyrenees Mountain region.
Presently there are 64 fishing preserves in the Nature Parks of Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas and of Sierra Nevada. Rio Frio a small town sandwiched in between Malaga and Granada is known for Trout fishing. You can indulge in fishing throughout the year. At the local restaurants, bar barbecued trout is served.
Fishing on the Costa Blanca
Amadorio Dam offers best fresh water fishing. Fishes like barbel, black bass, rainbow trout and the biggest car are found here. The rivers in Costa Blanca are abundant with carp and barbel.
Rainbow trout were introduced in 1977 and come under protected category. If you want to catch them, you need to take license first and a trout supplement. From the first Sunday in March to August 15th you can catch non-mountain trout. In the sea you may chance upon catching big grey mullet, sea bream and bass. At about two to three miles off the coast you may find Mackerel.
Fishing on the Costa Brava
Hire a boat for a good catch in this region. The River Ter and River Onyar provide carp, barbel, tench and eel. Lake Banyols has pike and carp. For fishing in River Segre you need a license.
Underwater fishing
Procure a license by the local authorities. Underwater fishing is popular these days. The equipments that you can carry for under water fishing are snorkel tube; mask or mechanical harpoon gun but scuba equipment is forbidden.
Salt-water fishing
You can do fishing along the shorelines of The Atlantic and Mediterranean. During summer, many fishing competitions are held.
